In this topic, we are going to take a look on what you need know about the current (as of this post) story campaign.
Ten thousand years ago during the War of the Ancients, a red dragon under the name of Helius, the first born son of Asherystrasz lost faith in the Resistance’s ability to defend the world from an infinite army of the Burning Legion. Helius had always been dubious in his beliefs. Having an innate fear of death, while many Red Dragons believed in the sanctity and self-sacrifice for the betterment of all life, Helius had been different. He shared a belief in that you cannot help others, if you cannot help yourself first. That your own life is more important than anyone else’s.
Fighting alongside his father for the span of the war and it about to reach the final conclusion of it. A nathrezim under the name of Malphaezar approached Helius alone with his guards down, feigning surrender. Malphaezar engaged in a conversation with Helius and showed him that all his effort, that all he was doing was just delaying the inevitable. Malphaezar had witnessed the countless victories of the Burning Legion, as well as having information as to the events that happened on the doom world of Nihilam. In which Malphaezar showed Helius that his own very creators; The Pantheon was shattered by Sargeras, and if he did not believe him, that he merely needed to look unresponsiveness of the Pantheon since their last blessing of the Dragon-Aspects.
Faced with unimaginable grief and fear, Helius realized that he could die in this war or he could decide to be on the side who would win, whether the gloom and doom he would bring is worth being alive over, or if he should choose to die for a dying world.
Helius made his decision.
Helius took the felfire into his own veins. His visage changed and he had chosen his side. He and his father clashed during the very last battle of the War of the Ancients in which Helius ended losing. His father, Asherystrasz was unable to kill his own son and so he put him into a ten thousand year imprisonment facility known only as the Scarred Past.
Shortly before the story of Legion:
Full story of Mithres Alymna: http://heartwing.dk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=591
After the events of the Cataclysm, in which Heartwing’s home was destroyed by Deathwing the Destroyer in a fit to shatter the defenses of the guardians of the world, Heartwing had been working endlessly to prepare for a new home.
Ever since time immemorial, even before the War of the Ancient, an ancient home of dragons called Mithres Alymna was a welcoming sanctuary of dragons resting upon its eerie peaks.
An past event that happened in the War of the Ancients rose an ancient barrier around Mithres Alymna, that would stand for ten thousand years. With the magic waning out, Heartwing made their home now on the ancient sanctuary.
With the events of the Iron Horde, in which Helius tricked Heartwing into his own hand, Helius escaped captivity from the Scarred Past after stealing the only key to the Scarred Past, which was locked in a pedestal on Mithres Alymna.
Now with Gul’dan having infiltrated the Tomb of Sargeras, unlocking the magical fluxing nexus inside it. The Legion has returned to our world. Heartwing has only recently recovered from an inside sabotage of Helius’ forces known as the Felsworn, and only recent been able to rebuild. The war had already come to the Broken Isles, and the Horde and Alliance were already on their way there.
An section of the Legion invaded Mithres Alymna and Heartwing was faced with an ultimatum; Stay and defend their rightful home or help the forces of Azeroth stop the Legion before they could launch a wider assault on Azeroth, it might not even survive. People’s hearts were heavy, but a decision was made. They abandoned Mithres Alymna into the gripes of the wicked hands of the Legion and made landfall on the Broken Shore.
Heartwing had never been more unified in their numbers. Every single active member of Heartwing was present at the Broken Shore. Through the cruelty seen by how the Legion had burnt their scouts to a crisp, to the unending terrorizing screams of their bats above, Heartwing persevered. Slaying ered’ruin, pitlords and even generals of the Burning Legion until they rose up to shatter the very tower of the tomb. Their efforts were thwarted.
Swarms of fel bats after another emerged around Heartwing, result in the deaths of many members of Heartwing. The rest, injured. From the felstorm descended two dragon sisters who were formerly kin of life, now just a desecrated image of slaves to Sargeras’ dark crusade.
Though with courage in heart, Heartwing bested the sisters. Aylra died, and her sister Etres escaped the battlefield, not thinking this encounter was worth dying for.
Victory was within reach.
.. The Horde retreated with the Alliance abandoning us on the Broken Shore.
The armies of the Legion rose tenfold, mightier than ever before. It was at the monumental peak of ending this war before it had even started, that Helius emerged. The perpetrator behind all dismay Heartwing has faced, descended for the first time in ten thousand years into Azeroth.
Death after death, the dying and agonized screams were heard echoing throughout the Broken Shore.
Though initially, Helius did not engage in the fight directly, his eyes were focused on the positions of each dragons of Heartwing in the sky. He waited for the moments in which he anticipated Heartwing’s moves before the Leader of Heartwing, Aerenstrasz hurried to rescue of a batch of drakes surrounded by Legion forces. It was all Helius needed to trap the leader of Heartwing, and Aerenstrasz was captured and brought away from the surface of Azeroth.
Heartwing had lost. Azeroth had lost.
With the last forces of Heartwing reduced to but a glimpse of what Heartwing is. They decided to try their best to rescue who they could and escape the dreaded shore. Through the last threads of fate, they escaped just barely the gaze of Helius, to his great frustration.
Now within Suramar, the surrounding region to the Broken Shore. Heartwing couldn’t go back to Mithres Alymna, they could not find solace. The Legion had been successful in their invasion, and nowhere was now safe.
Many were devastated. Many felt heartbroken. But all wanted to live. All wanted to seek retribution for their fallen, to reclaim their home. To drive the very Legion from their world, and it echoed never before louder in anyone's hearts.
One day, the Legion would realize.
