Dragonflight: Bronze Dragonflight
Dragon Name: Shoridormu
Aliases: Sandor Spannerwizzle, Baroales Darmotar, Hargoth Stormfury
Adulthood: Matured Dragon
Loyalty(-ies): Bronze Dragonflight (what is left of it), Heartwing (in future)
View of Heartwing: Shori views Heartwing as a last refuge for his kind. He thinks they are honourable because they have remained defenders of the planet even after the cataclysm. But he has little more opinions about the orginisation as a whole.
Affiliations: Gnomes, Orgrimmar, Gadgetzan, High Elves
Attitude/Behaviour: Shori is generally kind, helpful and sometimes witty. When you talk to him, you wouldn’t notice anything odd about him. He will share his experiences with younger beings. He will get into discussions about things he understands (else he would have been a pretty horrible engineer) and when given a task, he will do his best to complete it. But he will rarely recognize his own contribution, one could say that he has imposter syndrome. This leads to a lack of confidence, even though he does seem confident on the surface. When alone at night, many thoughts go through his head and he can be found punching walls or trees.
Shori spends his free time inventing or fixing machines and combining them with magic to improve them. Like a real life military mechanic, Shoridormu does also keep himself in proper shape through sport and sparring, though not to the level of real life Special Forces units. He isn’t a warrior after all.
Key traits: Engineer, electromancer, tactical mind
Respect for authority: Shoridormu isn't the type to go against orders. He might question them sometimes, if he actually knows the subject. But when the orders do not concern his fields of expertise, he will simply feel that his opinion isn't valuable, regardless of whether or not he is correct.
Character Personality: Shoridormu can be consider a nerd. He is pragmatic and loves to learn and teach people about the world, possibly to the annoyance of said people. Whether it is technology, biology or arcane, he finds everything interesting. However 2 fields of study are closest to his heart: engineering and electromancy. His aptitude for engineering also gives him a tactical mind, rarely going into the fray without a plan. This however can result in him taking longer to make decisions than he should.
Furthermore, Shoridormu is a kind soul and does not want to hurt anyone. Shoridormu also has a tendency to underestimate his own importance in a group, often feeling like he does not contribute enough, even though those around him do see his value.
Add to this the many horrors he has faced during the wars he has taken part in during his life, one can expect some self punishing behaviour. This is usually after the threat has passed. Shoridormu will then blame himself for the suffering of others, believing that had he done more, less people would have died.
One should note that this does not mean Shoridormu is shy. He generally hides these darker thoughts beneath a normal demeanor.
It is the weaknesses described above that Shoridormu must overcome to once more become a “Engineering Officer”.
IRL-Person Personality: I find it very hard to describe myself. But most describe me a kind hearted person, who's goal is to make the people around him better of. However I do often struggle with picking right from wrong, I am constantly thinking about anything and anyone, wondering what the right course of action is.
I think the rest is probably best judged by those officers that already know me.
Hobbies: Tinkering, learning science/magic, engineering, practising magic
Future desired position: Engineering Officer (Person who makes sure all buildings, weaponry etc. are built and maintained)
Common spells: Lightning Breath, lightning paralysis, electrifying weaponry and armour , general chronomancy (what is still left of it)
Prestige spells: Overload (powers or destroys machinery), tinkering/engineering on enemy machinery, Slow Down (Slows down incoming attacks. Does not restrict movement (necessarily) but must be channelled continuously)
Backstory Summary: Shoridormu was born 752 years go. He lived in the Sands of Tanaris for the first 100 years of his life, being a watcher of the time ways. He learned all that he could of chronomancy and used this ability to learn about the history of the world. But most of his free time was spent learning about electromancy. After about 100 years, Shoridormu started ranging further from his home, having lost his initial interest in history. He studied flora and fauna in Un'Goro and Feralas for about 60 years in his free time, before moving further up to the Barrens, Mulgore and eventually Ashenvale. It was in Ashenvale that Shori started interacting with the local Night Elves. Having taken the guise of a simple peasant, he walked around the Night Elven settlement and stumbled upon a man with a broken wagon. The wheel had broken off. Shori helped the man repair the wagon, this event being the first time that Shori had truly intereracted with technology and he fell in love with it. Shori began making simple contraptions to aid his normal life. Things like carts and lamps. It was also during this time that Shoridormu got romantically involved with another Bronze Drake, but this love never led to any children.
Wanting to learn more about engineering, Shoridormu made his way to the gnomes and dwarves (the exact time gnomes and dwarves began tinkering is unclear, I assume it was more than 1000 years ago), living among the gnomes, working on the prototypes of many contraptions we see today, though never claiming any recognition for it. He used teleportation to quickly move between the Caverns of Time and Dun Morogh. Despite Shoridormu's lack of confidence, his strong work ethic made him a well-respected engineer among the ever kind hearted gnomes, leading to him always finding work when his previous projects were finished. Eventually, the kind words from his colleagues did give him confidence and eventually he was given a Chief Engineer position, working on designing the canopy of a hot air balloon. Since Gnomes have long lifespans (some sources say over 200 years), Shori was able to stay with them for quite a while. But eventually, he had to leave the gnomes behind. Instinctively, Shoridormu knew darker times were approaching and it was time he started getting his martial skills up to snuff.
At the age of 423, Shoridormu made his way to the High Elves and began learning arcane magic from them. A decision he would later regret. Where gnomes were kind hearted, caring and helped those who were down, the High Elves were arrogant, snobby and cared little for those below them. Despite having the magical aptitude of a dragon, Shori felt like he was nothing compared to his High Elven peers, who had bathed in the Sunwell's power for their entire lives. And those peers weren't the type to say otherwise either. It was this lack of support that slowly brought Shoridormu's hard fought confidence down again. But Shori knew he could not return to the gnomes. Shori was and is very pragmatic and their small body could not stand up to the horrors that were on the horizon.
Shoridormu stayed with the high elves till about the age of 640. He then returned to the Caverns of Time permanently and continued his engineering studies in Gadgetzan. It was only after Thrall rebuilt the Horde, that Shoridormu left for Ogrimmar to master the ways of the battle shaman. Their power of lightning was similar to his own powers and using the guise of a young orc, Shori took instruction from an old shaman in Durotar. Like before, Shoridormu didn’t have much confidence, but he did have perseverance. His training was much like a Mag’Rogahn, in that despite not always coming out victorious, his perseverance gained him respect from the proud Orcs. Shoridormu eventually learned the ways of the “improvised” enhancement shaman (since his power is not actually derived from any elemental spirit). Whether his teacher knew of Shori’s true nature will forever be a mystery, as his teacher died during the war against the Lich King.
Begrudgingly selecting his Orcish mortal form over his Gnomish form, Shoridormu fought in the Nexus War, mostly working on sabotaging arcane based devices, losing many comrades in the process. Similar things occurred during the Cataclysm, as well as fighting during the Siege of Wyrmrest Temple. By luck and skill, Shoridormu made it out alive, but wounded, both mentally and physically. Shoridormu returned to the Caverns of Time to recover, where in his darkest moments, he still blames himself for the deaths of his comrades.
With the revelation of being immortal and infertile, Shoridormu got the drive to still make something of his life. He has some regrets of never having children, but he never had much drive to do so anyway. Now being one of the older living dragons, he will help to guide the younger dragons of the world towards a better future. To this end, he decided to make his way to Heartwing, hoping to regain his confidence and finally reach his goal of being useful.
First time at dragon roleplay? I have experience playing Tarodormu, Bakustrazs and Sorostrazs
(IC) Reason to join: To prevent the extinction of his kind, as well protecting the world he lives in. Deep down he does know that his skills are valuable among the dragons and he should contribute. Also, he is aware that most of the older dragons are now dead and it now falls to him to raise and guide the younglings. In short: he wants to be useful.
(OOC) Reason to join: To return to dragon RP
